My Acne.Org Journey – One Year!

HEY Y’ALL

Happy April!! I’m so so SO excited for nice weather and no more gross/cold/winter weather! By the title of this I’m sure you can guess that this post is about my acne journey I started one year ago (WHAT?! where has the time gone?!) and how far my skin has come since then! The last time I posted about this journey was three months after I started using the Acne.org products and I was so incredibly happy that my skin was finally clearing up and I was FINALLY getting over the worst acne I’ve ever had in my life. And I’m so so so so so so happy that even after a year my skin has gotten even better!

After my three month update I kept buying and using the kit exactly as the directions instruct you to but after watching a few YouTube videos of people that have used this system also I decided to just keep using the benzoyl peroxide as a treatment and see if I could get away with using a (cheaper) gentle cleanser and picked up Cetaphil to give it a try. For a while it seemed like it was keeping my skin clear but after a few months using it I started seeing some new breakouts on my cheeks like I had gotten in the past. So I stopped using the Cetaphil and switched back to the cleanser sold with the kit. My skin was SO thankful and has been consistently clear ever since with a few breakouts every now and then which is absolutely to be expected.

So here are my one year updated pictures!! I’m so incredibly impressed and happy with my progress with this kit!

The texture of my skin and the coloration is better than anything I could have ever imagined and I’m so incredibly thankful to have found this product. I’ve also now started using it on my arms, chest, and back to help clear the acne I have in those places as well. It’s certainly an investment but one than I’m absolutely willing to continue investing in. $70 every 3-4 months is absolutely worth my self confidence and security and if you’re suffering also, you know the feeling of being willing to do whatever it takes to get clear skin.

As cheesy as this may sound I know everyone who has suffered with acne will understand; I feel like my whole life has changed from getting the clear skin I’ve always wanted. I feel more confident now and don’t feel disgusted anymore when I look in the mirror. I even love playing with makeup more because I feel like it goes on my skin so much better. I honestly can’t thank the creators of this product enough for completely changing my life in the best way possible! If you are suffering from acne and feel like you don’t know what to do I’m am telling you to TRY THIS PRODUCT. YOUR HAPPINESS IS WORTH IT!

THANK YOU for following this journey and PLEASE feel free to ask me any questions you have!

My Acne.Org Journey – 3 Months!

HEY Y’ALL!

I hope you’re all having an absolutely amazing Monday! My 3 month check-in for the Acne.org regimen was supposed to be two weeks ago (!!!!!!!) (and the pictures were all taken two weeks ago) but I just got so dang BUSY that I never got to sit down and write!! But while I have a few minutes today I thought I’d get you guys some updates!

This will probably be my last ever post about my acne.org journey because (drum roll pleeeeeeease…………..) I am finally CLEAR!!! Like pretty much ALL.THE.WAY. It’s an absolutely incredible feeling. I haven’t felt this good about my skin since probably before middle school. I’ve told you guys so many times how I’ve been struggling with this for YEARS and years and years and have not ever felt confident in my skin without at least a little bit of makeup to cover up redness and bumps. Sure I would run to the grocery store without makeup every now and then, but now when I do it, I don’t feel like people are staring at me for my acne. I don’t feel like people are talking to my zits instead of to me. I don’t feel like I have to scrub and scrub and scrub my skin because it constantly feels dirty. I am finally HAPPY! It’s like I had come to terms with having breakouts for the rest of my life but was still never going to be happy until I had clear skin, and now that I do I feel SO GOOD!

I still have some residual red marks from acne which will just take some time to go away but my problem area on my jaw line has finally cleared, my cheeks are so smooth and there are NONE of those little bumps! Sure, I still break out with a pimple every now and then, but it’s just those inevitable hormonal and everyday-life break outs that everyone gets when they’re stressed out or eat too much greasy food that week. I will absolutely continue to use this product even though I’m totally clear, just to make sure I’m treating my skin right and keeping those zits away!

I can not say enough good things about this product. The customer service was amazing, the instructions were very clear and so easy to follow and you have OPTIONS when it comes to picking the routine that is perfect for you! I have cleared up SO WELL and I’m still not through my first tube of the benzoyl peroxide just because too much irritates my skin and the amount I’m using right now is working so if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right?! So it’s so great that I get to opt out of getting more if I don’t need it!

But without further ado, here are my most recent pictures along with them compared to last month, as well as the beginning of the program. I know I still have some red marks left over (like I mentioned before) and of course everyone will get a pimple now and then but I’m still incredibly happy with my results!

Again, I do have some red marks that still need healing but none of them are huge pimples that hurt anymore! I owe SO MUCH to everyone over at Acne.org for creating this product and making it THE BEST and only thing that has ever helped me. I tell everyone and anyone I meet that is struggling with acne about my success with this and I will tell everyone again and again. If you are struggling with acne TRY THIS RIGHT NOW. Honestly what do you have to lose? $40 is so worth it to me to have my clear skin and saves me from spending tons and tons of money on face washes and acne creams and doctors visits and prescriptions and …..you get the idea.

So thank you to everyone who shared this journey with me and PLEASE ask me any questions you might have about this system or share with me your story if you decide to take the plunge!!! I hope my journey has helped some of you realize that there IS something out there that can help and it takes A LOT of patience and diligence to have the clear skin you deserve but it’s not impossible!!! Thanks a million for reading and allowing me to share my story with all of you!

My Acne.Org Journey – 2 Months!

HEY Y’ALL!

I’m back with an update on my skincare routine that I’ve been using for 2 months now!

If you haven’t been following along, I’ll spare you the crazy details and let you go back and read the previous posts but the basic gist is that I’ve been a long time acne-sufferer and it has obviously carried over into adult acne and I’ve just about reached my breaking point of breaking out! SO I’ve been using products from Acne.org to combat my awful acne and reach my goal of having clear skin!

Now if you look on their website you’ll see a breakdown of what to expect each week and for my progress at 2 months I should be almost completely clear which I don’t think I am, but I think I am WELL on my way to being. At the end of the first month I was so incredibly happy with my results and couldn’t wait to be completely clear and keep seeing improvements over the next month so I was a little disappointed when I got a minor breakout on my cheeks within the past few weeks. While it’s still nowhere NEAR as bad as my skin was when I started it is definitely not as good as the end of month one. But when I look back I can see how much of my breakouts are my own fault with being a little more rough with my skin and (again) mindlessly picking at my skin which I need to STOP. BUT overall I’m still pretty happy with where my skin is going and I know I’ll be well on my way to clear skin when the summer rolls around!

So here are my pictures from last month to this month as well as from the beginning of my journey! As you can see it got a little worse from last month to this month and while most of it I am blaming on myself I also have hormones to blame as does every person in the whole world! Overall I think the texture of my skin is still really really awesome and much better than it was at the beginning! I’m still adjusting to moderately dry skin but getting to a place where I can manage it!

That has been my journey up until now! Not really any change or significant happenings over the month besides a few breakouts and I’m still overall pretty happy with the progress although I would LOVE to have had clear skin by now even though it says expect clear skin in 3-4 months. So we’ll see! I’ll keep updating every month and let you guys know how things are going. I’ve had people reach out to me about this product and I LOVE THAT so if you have any questions feel free to ask away and PLEASE update me on your progress if you decide to take the acne.org plunge also! Thanks so much for reading, muffins!

My Acne.Org Journey! – One Month!

HEY Y’ALL!

Happy hump day! Is it just me or does this week feel like it should be Saturday already? I LIVE for the weekends!

I’m back today with my one month progress on the Acne.org Regimen! If you’ve been following you know how awesome it’s been and I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made in just one month! I recently repurchased the products, this time in a larger size because it is estimated to take about 3-4 months to be COMPLETELY clear and I’m so close that I can’t stop now! For the one month I thought I would do some of the pros and cons of this product and its affect on my skin for anyone considering buying! (I’ll start with cons so we end on a high note!)

CONS

  • The burning sensation during weeks 2 & 3: While I understand it’s a part of the process and it takes skin a little while to adjust to benzoyl peroxide, the burning was one of the worst parts of my experience. The burning at its worst only lasted for a few days but it was really really really uncomfortable for those few days (which is why I think you NEED the jojoba oil) and a mild uncomfortable feeling lasted for about a week after. Also, I know everyone’s experience will be different so some people may not experience it as much but BE WARNED if you try this out that you will be uncomfortable BUT your skin WILL get used to it! (So I guess this is a con turned pro??)
  • The dry skin: This is BY FAR the WORST part for me. Having extremely oily skin I thought that my skin would definitely not dry out as much as other people’s but I’m sure that I was dead wrong. I don’t even use powder to set my foundation in the morning anymore because I don’t need it. And it’s not like it’s because I have nice normal skin now, it’s because my skin is drying out and literally flaking off of my face (GROSS I KNOW!) it’s making my hairline so dry that I’m embarrassed to wear my hair up (unless I’ve just washed it) because it looks like I have an insane case of dandruff. So if you have dry skin and are looking to try this PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE buy a large container of their moisturizer and use it ALL THE TIME. Especially if you’re not a makeup wear-er, moisturize more than twice a day.

PROS

  • The ability to create your own kit based on your needs: Obviously at first I just purchased the standard kit that the creator first recommends, but after a month on the Regimen I could tell what I really used the most of, that I didn’t need as much benzoyl peroxide because of the time it took for my skin to get used to it, and I had the option to add additional products if I wanted to AND you can get them delivered on a recurring basis if you want. Most (maybe even all) other acne three step kits are just that, a three step kit. No different sizes, no way to change the amounts of each step you need, etc. This is a great feature that Acne.org has!
  • CLEAR SKIN Y’ALL!: I mean, it’s pretty self explanatory. I had pretty much come to terms with the fact that I would just be dealing with covering my acne until I outgrew it (can you outgrow adult acne?) but it obviously was always in the back of my mind. “It would be so nice to be able to go out of the house wearing just a tinted moisturizer” or “I would love to have makeup go on smooth for once in my life” you get the picture. Having tried everything under the sun (besides Accutane) with no results this was a WELCOME change.

So now onto the results! I put in just the results from last week to this week and the results from the start until now so I don’t overload with pictures! But if you want to see week to week check the posts from the very beginning!

You can tell in the pictures that my problem area has always been and continues to be my jaw line but the amount that it’s diminished is so awesome even though a few pimples do still pop up every now and then.

I’ll probably just start doing a monthly update now that my skin has drastically cleared! One more tip if you do decide to purchase this, make sure you buy your next supply a LONG TIME in advance because the shipping takes FOR.EV.ER. As in over a week for standard shipping. Don’t expect it before at least 8 days if you select the standard shipping! To be fair it says 3-8 business days for it to arrive but usually when that happens it’ll be around 5 days. This is the longestttt I’ve ever had any online purchase take so make sure you buy it well before you desperately need it!

Thanks for reading and keeping up with what is not the most glamorous topic, I hope I’ve helped someone out there by sharing! 🙂

My Acne.Org Journey – Week 3!

HEY Y’ALL!

It’s that time of week again! A progress update for anyone considering purchasing The Regimen from acne.org! This is my third week on the products and while I haven’t noticed a huge reduction in the redness of my skin I’ll let you all know some of the things I’ve noticed this week and things I’ve learned along the way so far!

Last week I started off with telling you guys how horribly dry and flaky my skin was! While it’s still flaky and I have a problem with the dry dead skin around my temples getting into my hair (making me look like I have dandruff) it has lost all of that dry, cracking, stinging feeling which is AWESOME! I still get a little bit of uncomfortable itchiness at night when I put on more of the benzoyl peroxide treatment but I think my skin is finally getting used to it! While I’m not back to having crazy oily skin, it is starting to produce more oil than last week so I don’t look like I have dragon scales anymore! I have noticed more this week that the dry skin is flaking off my face, allowing for new skin to come to the surface which is making my complexion much smoother! I’ve honestly never felt my face so smooth! It’s also good because I’ve been DYING to exfoliate throughout this process because it’s no good for acne to be trapped under dead skin!

Now this past week I have been AWFUL about touching my face and reverting back to picking my skin so it is ENTIRELY my own fault for being more red this week than I was in my last photos but I can’t stress enough how much better the texture of my skin is!

I’ve posted below a photo of my skin that I took WITH makeup on before I started The Regimen to show just how bad the texture of my skin was before I started and a picture I took this morning with makeup on to show the difference! Before I started this skincare routine I had not only red pimples and acne on my face (mostly my chin and jaw) but also all of these tiny little bumps that were almost whiteheads all over my cheeks. I had never ever before in my life had bumps like that. When my acne started in around 7th grade, the majority of my problem was on my forehead and chin and that T-zone area right around the nose. Even through high school and most of college my cheeks remained fairly clear with some pimples coming up every now and then. So when I really started to get all of these tiny bumps on my cheeks I just got completely fed up. THANK GOODNESS for this skin care routine because it has saved my sanity.

Today

I mean, JUST LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE! You can see that there are still some small bumps along my cheekbones but for the most part they’ve gone down an INCREDIBLE amount and it makes my makeup go on so much smoother every day! The bumps don’t show up as much in the progress pictures but once I put on makeup and even out my skin tone they become REALLY visible and I’m so thankful they’ve diminished!

So now onto the progress pictures! Like I said before, there is more redness in these pictures but that is ENTIRELY my fault because I was bad and picked at my skin (old habits die hard right?!) But I’m trying to be more conscience about when I touch my face throughout the day and trying not to slip back into bad habits!

So there’s my progress for week 3! So far I’m REALLY happy with the results and am getting close to needed to order more! For anyone wanting to order shipping is fo FREE with orders over $40 and every single kit is over $40 (the basic is $44) so if you’re considering buying it but are worried about the cost I completely encourage you to save up and order at least the basic kit! It has helped me tremendously so far and I can’t wait to finally have clear skin! Thanks for reading love bugs!

My Acne.Org Journey – Week Two!

HEY Y’ALL!

It’s April! We’re so close to summer I can FEEL IT! It’s been another week on “The Regimen” from Acne.org and for those of you considering buying it I’ll break down some things I’ve noticed and some things I recommend based on my skin this week!

FIRST of all, let’s just talk about how incredibly DRY my skin has been this week (I’m even wearing a makeup for dry skin today…WHO AM I?!). To the point that it’s so painful. Maybe it’s because I went from having skin like an oil slick to my face producing NO OIL whatsoever the past few days so I’m not at all used to dealing with dry skin. And my oily girls are probably like “OMG that sounds like a dream!” because, trust me, I thought that too when my skin ended up looking like I rubbed a stick of butter on my face by the end of the day. But I have a new found sympathy for all my friends with extremely dry skin and if there is one thing I can recommend from buying this regimen it is that you should 100% BUY THE JOJOBA OIL!!!!

On their website they have about 6 different types of kits you can buy (I got the basic cleanser, treatment, moisturizer kit, but there are also different sizes of the basic kit, body acne kits and kits with some extras added in) and a few of them include the jojoba oil and I thought “oh I have suuuuper oily skin I probably won’t need this!” but HOLY COW I do. The best way I could describe my skin the past few days is that dry chapped feeling you get around your nose when you have a cold and end up blowing your nose a zillion times a day but all.over.my.face! So now you’re all probably like HECK NO I’m not buying that stuff! BUT that is why I think you NEED to buy the jojoba oil. It should come standard in every kit if you ask me because I love the progress that I’m seeing in clearing my skin but it has just been so uncomfortable the past few days (which is explained when you purchase that your skin WILL be irritated for a few weeks.)

SO since I didn’t order the jojoba oil originally, I set out yesterday to find some at my local drugstores and found NONE so I went ahead and got baby oil because I figured it was probably the next best thing (baby skin is delicate so I thought it would probably be a lot less irritating than a Neutrogena oil that I found) and mixed about 10 drops in with my moisturizer last night and my skin felt soooooo much better this morning! So now that I know oil will work I’m going to search for some jojoba around me somewhere! (UPDATE: I found some at the vitamin/supplement store GNC but I know you can also get it at Trader Joe’s and probably Whole Foods if you’re looking for it!)

Another thing I noticed was that my skin would STING after I put the moisturizer on. Especially when I went to put on my makeup afterwards. The combination of dry chapped feeling skin and stinging is NOT A GOOD ONE! So this morning I went reeeeally slow, took my time doing the treatment and the moisturizer and didn’t rush to just slap it all on my face. I moisturized each section of my face separately so that the treatment didn’t get into the suuuuuper dry parts around my nose and mouth or the sensitive skin around my eyes. That helped A LOT. It’s hard in the morning when you just want to get it on your face and get out the door before you’re late but the creators of this product aren’t kidding when they say to take your time and be gentle!

So with all of that being said, I have noticed even more improvements in my skin and am going to charge through the uncomfortable feeling with the help of some oils and extra moisturizer and hopefully come out with CLEAR SKIN! YAY!

I put pictures from last week here too just in case you want to see it from the start as well as from week to week! 🙂 (Also, I put some extra prescribed moisturizer around my nose and mouth that I had before to help with the dry skin so you can see a bit of a Santa Claus beard on my chin! haha!)

So there’s my progress for this week! I WILL find some jojoba oil (or keep using baby oil) and I emailed advice@acne.org and they told me it would be okay to cut back to using the treatment only once a day if the burning stinging feeling persists. I probably put on too much treatment too quickly so I’ll be dialing it down for sure! (That’s another thing, if you have ANY questions about ANYTHING regarding your skin just email them and they get right back to you within 24 hours or so!)

Thanks for reading and as always feel free to ask questions! If you want to keep seeing progress check back again in a week!

My Acne.Org Journey – Week One!

HEY Y’ALL!

Good morning! Happy Wednesday! By the title of this post I’m sure you can tell what it’s going to be about, my long 10 year journey with acne HOPEFULLY coming to a close!

If you read my skin care post back in January I talked briefly about my long time struggle with acne and how I’ve tried just about everything under the sun to try and clear my skin. I’m not even slightly joking when I tell you I’ve probably tried over 25 different products at various times in my life including 4 different three-step-kits, two different prescription medications, two different topical prescription gels, every Clean&Clear and Clearasil face wash known to man, astringent pads, spot treatments, masks and…..you get the idea. It’s been A LOT! A few of them didn’t work at all and some of them worked to clear up some of my acne but not all of it and when I got fed up I would go back to a regular face wash and my acne would usually come back a little worse. And it’s not just on my face, I have it on my chest, on my neck, on my back, on my arms…..it’s a huge struggle and sometimes a painful one.

If you’ve ever had acne you know how awful it can be. Constantly worrying about if people are talking to you or talking to your zits. Always trying to cover it up so people aren’t disgusted by the thousands of red bumps all over your face. Not really wanting to wear a bathing suit because you’re breaking out on your chest and back. Never fully feeling like your skin is clean because acne just CONSTANTLY makes you feel like you’re dirty and need to wash your face. Even having a zit cause you physical pain because it’s so much pressure under your skin. I’ve been there. I’ve felt ALL of these things for almost half my life and I sympathize with ANYONE who has ever had acne. It’s one of the reasons I really embraced make-up. It doesn’t cover everything, but it helps me have confidence! I recently saw this buzzfeed post and it spoke to my soul: http://www.buzzfeed.com/floperry/things-all-girls-with-acne-will-understand#.as6Od1zOam

So with little hope for clear skin until I reached my 40th birthday or something I kind of gave up. I was sticking to a routine that just managed my acne, but didn’t clear it up. But then I was clicking around on YouTube and found people talking about this product called “The Regimen” from Acne.org. It’s another three-step-kit and my initial reaction was “Seriously?? ANOTHER three-step-kit??” and I kind of dismissed it thinking it would probably work the same as just about every other one I’ve tried, moderate improvement but nothing drastic or permanent. So about a month later I started breaking out BAD. Probably the worst breakout I’ve ever had in my life. And I’m 23 going on 24 soon, I shouldn’t be having this bad of a breakout post-puberty, but HERE WE ARE. All of my acne seemed to be getting bigger and more painful so I opened my computer back up and dug a little deeper into these Acne.org products. I read reviews, I read the website front to back, I watched SO MANY journeys on YouTube of people just like me who were beyond fed up with their skin. So I finally decided “what else do you have to lose? If this doesn’t work at least you can say you tried right?” and I bought it. And here starts my clear skin journey 🙂

WARNING: Below will contain pictures of my skin that are not the most aesthetically pleasing, read at your own risk! (Lol)

It finally arrived at my house last Tuesday so once I got home from work I hopped in the shower because I couldn’t WAIT to try it. It comes with three bottles: a cleanser, the treatment, and a moisturizer.

regimen-kit-cropped

It came with EXTREMELY specific instructions, which I knew going into it since I had read about it and watched so many videos. It tells you to follow the directions EXACTLY as they are written so that you’ll see results. It’s not that it’s a rigorous process but the directions are so specific that it can feel like a lot and I’ll let you read in depth on their website but the basic gist is this

  1. Dispense two pumps of cleanser into your hands and work it into a lather. Then GENTLY wash your face for no more than 10 seconds. Rinse and GENTLY pat dry.
  2. Dispense a pea sized amount into your hands and GENTLY apply it to your face, working up to a full finger-length amount at the end of week 2
  3. Dispense two pumps of moisturizer into your hands and GENTLY apply it to your face.

Do this routine twice a day every day, doing the treatment only at night during the first week and then twice a day starting the second week.

Are you seeing a theme here? BE GENTLE! I got it, Irritation = Acne. This is not news to me. I thought I was being gentle with my skin but you don’t realize how harsh you are until someone tells you to dial it down. With these products I barely touch my skin and I’ve almost completely stopped picking at my skin in between washes. But the hardest part is not being able to use my Clarisonic. You know how much I love that thing!!!! It was my savior two years ago and makes my face feel so clean, but it is not allowed in this super gentle routine. I digress!

So I bet you’re sitting there like “KRISTIN GET TO THE DANG RESULTS! DOES IT WORK?!?!” and I’m so happy that I can tell you that IT DOES! Now my pictures below don’t look a whole lot different. There is still some redness and definitely still pimples but I can feel and see it working when I look in the mirror. The website has a chart of the weeks and the results you should be seeing and for week one it says “Mild improvement. Skin is red, irritated, and itches while skin adjusts to treatment.” which is all very true. I have seen mild improvement and the Benzoyl Peroxide treatment has definitely caused my skin to dry out and start to itch…a lot.

So here are the pictures! The left picture is before I started and the right picture is one week. (My skin looks super yellow because the moisturizer is yellow! It’s not fully absorbed yet in this picture but Pretty Little Liars was coming back on and I couldn’t wait! haha)

Right side START – Right Side WEEK 1

IMG_0284

Forehead START (top) – Forehead WEEK 1 (bottom)

I feel like I can definitely see some results! And it’s only been one week so I’m not worried! I do still wear makeup every day and I use a makeup wipe at night to take it all off before I use the cleanser because I don’t think my skin gets as clean if I don’t take the makeup off first (which is probably not recommended so I’m going to try not to and see how it goes) but other than that I have been following The Regimen instructions to a T! I’m going to post my results every week so I can document my progress and hopefully help someone out there who has struggled with acne like me! Thanks so much for reading this and feel free to ask me any questions! I hope someone else finds this as great as me! 🙂 ❤
